Every June, we celebrate National Immigrant Heritage Month—a time dedicated to honoring the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of immigrants across the United States. From the earliest arrivals to more recent generations, immigrants have shaped and strengthened our communities in countless ways. Their journeys are often filled with resilience, sacrifice, and hope, and their presence continues to enrich every aspect of our shared lives—from education and business to the arts, culture, and public service.
Here in Oregon—and especially in Washington County—immigrants are vital to the social and economic fabric of our region. They open businesses, lead classrooms, care for families, grow food, and bring life to our neighborhoods through cultural traditions, language, and storytelling. National Immigrant Heritage Month offers us the opportunity to not only celebrate these contributions but to affirm our collective commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive place for all people, regardless of their place of origin.
Throughout the month, local organizations, cities, and community members come together to host events, share resources, and uplift immigrant voices. From cultural performances and festivals to educational programs and public art, there are many ways to engage. Whether you’re attending a community celebration, supporting an immigrant-owned business, or learning more about the immigrant experience, we invite you to join us in recognizing and honoring the strength and beauty of our diverse community.
