Schedule a time for your pack to work on just a few requirements or complete an entire badge! A naturalist will guide you through hands-on activities to complete the badge components of your choice. What can be better than learning to identify native trees in your neighborhood park, talking with a park ranger about their job duties, or learning why those slimy banana slugs are so perfectly adapted to the Pacific Northwest!
Program Opportunities
THPRD’s Nature & Trails Department offers a variety of interactive environmental education programs and events for the community to get involved in, including Scouts.
Bug Safari Program: Schedule a program with a naturalist any time, for a group hike or birthday party. Search for bugs in different habitats, learn what makes a bug a bug, and why these critters are so important in our ecosystem.
Habitat Hike Program: Schedule this program with a naturalist for a group hike. This program can be very open-ended and tailored to your interests and whatever nature decides to present on the day of your hike. Explore a local park searching for wildlife and learning about their habitats with an expert.
Self-Guided Hikes
Simply taking an observant stroll with your pack through a park can help you with many badge points. Look for camouflaged animals, observe wildlife or practice plant identification. You’ll be amazed at the amount of native wildlife in our neighborhood parks if you spend some time in quiet observation. Any THPRD park will host wildlife but check out Cooper Mountain Nature Park and the Tualatin Hills Nature Park for the most pristine and unique native habitats.
Self-Guided Trail Inspections
We also offer a way for you or your troop to complete a service project at your own leisure. Pick up litter, look for problems to report back to our Park Rangers or simply help out some invertebrate wildlife. Take a stroll through a park of your choice, fill out the form and either drop it off or mail it to the Tualatin Hills Nature Center for a Park Ranger to review.
We appreciate the help our community provides to improve the safety and health of our parks and their inhabitants. To learn more about how you can help out, download our Trail Inspection Form, located in the document center listed on the top right side of this page. Mail in/drop off the completed form to: 15655 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton, OR 97003.
