All of the positions listed below are provided with the training that is necessary to be successful in the position. These positions also require a longer commitment from the volunteer, which is specific to each position.

Court-ordered Community Service Opportunities (Ages 18+)
If you are looking to complete court-ordered community service, you are welcome to sign up to volunteer at any of our one-day events. These are the only service opportunities currently available for anyone looking to complete court mandated service.
Administration Assistant (Ages 16+)
Administrative Assistants provide a link between the park district and the community, by helping visitors understand and appreciate district programs and facilities. This position provides customer service and general office support to better serve patrons. Positions are available occasionally at district facilities. Bilingual Spanish, Arabic and Vietnamese speakers are preferred.

Adoption Program
Our Adoption Program is open again! We're looking to recruit volunteers interested in adopting portions of the landscaped gardens at the historic Jenkins Estate. Our adoption volunteers receive training and can help with weeding, pruning, mulching and planting throughout their adoption site. This position has one of the most flexible volunteer schedules available and offers a range of activities, depending on how involved you would like to be.

Advisory Committees (Ages 16+)
THPRD's three advisory committees typically meet on the third Wednesday of the month (6-12 times annually) to participate in discussions, review plans, and provide broad feedback on park district programs, facilities, and parks. Each committee includes at least nine appointed volunteers, a staff liaison and a member of THPRD's Board of Directors. Volunteers must be district residents and commit to serving a two-year term.

Aquatic Champion (Ages 18+)
Aquatic Champions provide a structured and enjoyable learning environment for youth and adults enrolled in swimming lessons with the district, while promoting participants’ physical, social and personal development. Positions are available at any district pool where swim lessons are taught. Successful applicants will commit to assisting with at least two swim lessons a month for a minimum of six-months.

Budget Committee (Ages 16+)
The Budget Committee generally meets three times a year and is responsible for providing public oversight of budget preparations, recommending changes to the proposed budget, and supplying information to the public about district business and operations. This 10-member committee includes all five THPRD board members and five citizen members.

THPRD is currently recruiting new volunteers to join the district's budget committee. Multiple positions are available on this committee. Applicants must be age 16+, live in-district and commit to a three-year term (starting January 2025) to qualify.

Childcare Assistant (Ages 14+)
Childcare Assistants help staff with the oversight, setup and cleanup of youth preschool, drop-in child care and afterschool programs. Volunteers help facilitate activities, which could include crafts, dance, hiking, singing, sports and games. Each location may provide a different experience and/or serve a different portion of the community.

Community Scientist (Ages 14+)
This position performs wildlife surveys and may assist with non-native species collection at designated natural area sites throughout the district. Wildlife survey programs include:
Amphibian Egg Mass Surveys require wading into the water to count, identify and record the species and quantity of egg masses in district ponds. Volunteers must be able to perform four surveys (a minimum of two hours every two weeks) over the course of two months. The survey season is weather dependent, but generally runs February – April, with a training scheduled annually in late January or early February.
Snapping Turtle Management focuses on walking shoreline surveys to search for, identify and trap or collect nesting snapping turtles and their eggs. Volunteers must be able to perform six surveys (a minimum of two hours every week) over the course of six weeks. The survey season is weather dependent, but generally runs May – June. Trainings for this program are scheduled on an as needed basis.
Turtle Surveys focus on stationary shoreline surveys to search for, identify and count native and non–native turtles with binoculars. Volunteers must be able to perform 12 surveys (a minimum of one hour every week) over the course of three months. The survey season is weather dependent, but generally runs May – August, with a training scheduled annually in late April or early May.
Bee Pollinator Surveys are available to volunteers who have completed the Oregon Bee Atlas' Bee School. Bee School a five-day native bee introduction and identification course, scheduled each summer through the Oregon State University Extension Service. Volunteers perform wild bee surveys over the course of the season, generally ranging from February through November. If you have completed Bee School, feel free to submit an application below.

Coaching (Ages 18+)
District Coaches and Assistant Coaches provide an enjoyable learning environment for youth athletes involved in a variety of athletic programs, while promoting participants’ physical, social and personal development. Volunteer coaches support a variety of sports throughout the year, including:
Basketball – Tualatin Hills Athletic Center recruits coaches and assistant coaches to support middle and high school-aged basketball leagues. Coaches are recruited for the spring, summer and winter seasons, with recruitment opening in February, May and November, respectively. Apply here (in English & Spanish)!
Volleyball – Tualatin Hills Athletic Center recruits coaches to support middle and high school-aged leagues during the summer and fall. Coaches are recruited for the summer and fall seasons, with recruitment opening in May and August, respectively. Apply here (in English & Spanish)!
Track & Field – Cedar Hills Recreation Center recruits coaches to support track & field activities. These activities take place at Beaverton-area middle schools on weeknights, from late February – early May. Apply here (in English & Spanish)!

Park Steward (Ages 18+)
Park Stewards receive training to provide a positive presence while walking, jogging or rolling on district trails. This position has one of the most flexible volunteer schedules available and offers a range of activities, depending on how involved you would like to be. You can opt to just walk or roll the trails regularly to greet patrons and pick up trash, plus you may have the option to help with activities that improve the site, like trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and more!

Photographer (Ages 16+)
We are always looking for budding artists and professionals to take pictures that can be used to promote the district's offerings. Volunteer photographers attend a variety of district events and programs to photograph or video record activities. You must have your own equipment and experience using this equipment, as well as experience editing photos, to qualify for this position.

Stewardship Leader (Ages 18+)
Stewardship Leaders provide a positive and motivational presence while assisting with the supervision of youth volunteers at school service projects focused on the restoration of local natural areas. Volunteers are encouraged to develop and use leadership skills, their knowledge of local ecosystems, and interpretation skills.
