Involvement in team sports teaches young athletes more than just athletic skills; it's also a great way for them to gain invaluable life skills as well.
Benefits of playing a sport include:
Making friends
Learning to cooperate with others
Learning respect for others
Learning fair play and good sportsmanship
Developing a love of activity and physical fitness
Learning problem-solving skills
Having fun
THPRD youth sports leagues also offer an opportunity for adults to positively affect young lives. Many adults find this to be an immensely gratifying experience.
Affiliate programs
Youth baseball, softball, football, soccer, lacrosse and cricket leagues are all run by affiliated user groups in the Park District. The affiliated users are volunteer-run groups that manage registrations, team formation and scheduling. They work closely with THPRD staff to allocate field use, address league needs and concerns, and ensure trained coaches and a quality program. Our youth leagues would be at a tremendous loss without the many volunteers who step up each season, and we thank them for their service.
Participation
To complete registration, participants must have a valid THPRD identification and a completed medical consent form.
Out-of-district participants may be subject to an assessment fee in addition to team/league fees.
Players are prohibited from wearing jewelry during practices and games. A medical alert medal must be taped and may be visible (OSAA Volleyball Rule 4-1-7 and OSAA Basketball Rule 3-5-6).
