Indigenous Peoples’ Day is observed on the second Monday in October to honor the histories, cultures, and resilience of Native and Indigenous communities. Many organizations, cities and states celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day to recognize the first peoples of these lands and their enduring presence.
This day is an opportunity to reflect, learn, and celebrate the ongoing presence and leadership of Indigenous peoples in art, education, environmental justice, and community life. It also invites us to acknowledge the ancestral stewards of our region — here, the Atfalati-Kalapuyan people — and to build more respectful and meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities today.
