Channing Heights Park

Three-acre Channing Heights Park is in Beaverton's Highland neighborhood, on SW Valley Avenue south of SW Allen Blvd. (in between Fir Grove Park and Fir Grove Elementary). It is also accessible from SW Erickson Avenue.

The park consists of basketball courts, grassy lawns, a paved walking path, and picnic tables. A new playground, featuring several climbing features and a swing set, was installed at Channing Heights Park in 2010.

Channing Heights Temporary Traffic Safety Playground Now Open!

THPRD and Beaverton School District staff have been working closely to pilot a “Traffic Garden" or "Traffic Safety Playground” at Channing Heights Park, near Fir Grove Elementary School. This playground is part of the district’s ongoing work with the Beaverton Safe Routes to School organization. The pilot will take place from September through October. During the pilot, THPRD and Beaverton Safe Routes to Schools staff will evaluate use of the Traffic Playground to understand if there is a desire for the Traffic Playground long-term.

Traffic Playgrounds provide children and families a fun space to learn road traffic rules away from street traffic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they also offer a no-contact play destination for families. Each playground looks like a small version of our city’s streets. There are travel lanes, crosswalks, stop signs, and places to visit, like parks, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods. They are great for scooters, bicycles, wheelchairs, or feet. In short, these spaces invite families to be creative in the ways they use them!
