In partnership with Clean Water Services, contractors have continued treatment of purple loosestrife in and around the pond edges and have continued treatment of invasive shrubs and trees along the eastern edge of the park, targeting Himalayan blackberry, English ivy, and English hawthorn in particular. The entire area was planted in early 2014 with native shrubs and trees.
Project Summary & Public Benefits
The Natural Resources Department enhanced the natural area by removing non-native plants and replanting with native trees and shrubs following park development work. The project covered approximately 1.25 acres along the eastern edge of the park, including sections of turfed grass. Wildlife basking logs will potentially be added to the pond to increase wildlife habitat.
