Site preparation for the Morrison Woods Natural Area Vegetated Corridor Mitigation Area is scheduled to start spring 2013 (exact date forthcoming). Site preparation will consist of control of targeted non-native plants (Himalayan blackberry, English ivy, scotsbroom,and thistle) followed in the spring of 2014 by a native tree and shrub planting. Once plants are in the ground, establishment activities will continue for at least two years to insure plant survival and control of targeted non-native plants. Site preparation and establishment activities include mechanical and chemical treatment of targeted non-native plants.
Project Summary & Public Benefits
The Natural Resources Department will be enhancing the existing meadow and stabilizing the exposed edge of the forest in the northeast portion of the park. Land acquisition will also be an incorporated task to further preserve the natural areas.
