Project Summary & Public Benefits

Hyland Woods is a 30 acre natural area park in Beaverton, located east of Murray Boulevard and north of Sexton Mountain Road.

The park is primarily made up of Douglas-fir forest, with a small pond in the northeast corner. Approximately two acres near the southeastern corner of the park is managed as an off-trail nature play area. Nearly two miles of soft surface trails meander throughout Hyland Woods.

Improvements at Hyland Woods took place in two phases.

Phase I work took place from 2010 to 2014. A nature play area was established, where children are encouraged to play with any materials nature provides them. Habitat restoration work included invasive plant removal and planting of over 12,000 native trees and shrubs by contractors and volunteers.

Phase II work began in 2015. Habitat restoration work has focused on targeted invasive plant removal and replanting in the eastern portion of the site. Major work has been completed, but site maintenance will continue through 2019 to ensure native plantings are able to establish.
