Fir Grove East

Restoration work began in 2016 with removal of target weed species, followed up by native seeding and planting in 2018.  Staff continue to monitor the site for non-authorized uses and have found these issues reduced with the targeted removal of vegetation.  

Project Summary & Public Benefits

This 2.5 acre site, located just west of the intersection of SW Hall Blvd and SW 22nd St, was purchased in 2013 with funding from the 2008 bond measure.  The site is an upland forest with a nice mixture of native canopy species, such as Douglas-fir, big leaf maple, Oregon white oak, Oregon ash, and ponderosa pine.  It is also heavily infested with non-native, invasive weeds, such as Himalayan blackberry, English ivy, bird cherry, English holly, and English laurel.

There is a City of Beaverton trail that runs along the western edge of the site, connecting SW 22nd St with SW Main Ave.  As this site is densely populated with invasive vegetation, there is little visibility into the forest, which has historically led to non-authorized activities.  By removing dense, non-native vegetation, we are hoping to make this natural area and path a safer place to walk and enjoy nature.  

Professional contractors will improve wildlife habitat by treating and removing non-native vegetation and planting with native plant species.  Installed species will be chosen as to provide habitat for animals, while not creating a hiding place for non-authorized uses.
