THPRD has partnered with Clean Water Services to restore habitats throughout the park. As a result of the efficiencies of the partnership, the project has been expanded to include the entire natural area within the park.
In 2013, an intergovernmental agreement was approved by the boards of directors of both agencies. Staff from both agencies collaborated to draft a restoration plan for the site, and soon afterwards contractors began clearing and treating invasive vegetation in preparation for planting.
Contractors removed invasive shrubs and trees including English hawthorn, English holly, English ivy and Himalayan blackberry throughout the park. Starting in 2015, contractors began to seed the site with native grasses and wildflowers, and plant native shrubs and trees to increase native species diversity and density.
Project Summary & Public Benefits
The Natural Resources Department will conduct extensive weed treatment and intensive shrub and tree plantings to provide shade and habitat diversity at the 20-acre Fanno Creek Park. A study site for creek and water flow improvements will also be incorporated.
Project Budget
$158,000
