In March, THPRD proudly celebrates Women’s History Month by honoring the strength, intelligence, and perseverance of women throughout history. Women of all backgrounds have fought against discrimination, shattered barriers, and led groundbreaking change in every field—from science and education to politics and the arts.
THPRD itself exists today thanks to the pioneering leadership of Elsie Stuhr, who in 1953 led a two-year effort that resulted in the creation of the district. Her vision set the foundation for the thriving park and recreation system we have today.
Women continue to shape our world as innovators, activists, educators, and leaders. Their contributions have made a lasting impact, and their fight for equity and justice continues. When women thrive, communities thrive—everyone benefits from gender equity, and we all have a role to play in supporting a more inclusive and just world.
